Match Report: We’re Going To Croker- Mayo vs Kildare

It was a day for full of nerves and joy for for Mayo fans today in Carrick On Shannon as Mayo fought off Kildare to book themselves a place in the National League Final against Kerry.

James Horan’s men were going in to the game with two consecutuve losses but it didn’t stop Mayo from putting up the fight and making it an enjoyable outing for Mayo fans who made the journey.

It was Kildare who opened the scoreline between the pair with Paddy Woodgate slotting the ball over the bar for a Kildare free in the opening minute.

Mayo were hit with injury early in the game with Diarmuid O’Connor picking up injury aswell as Brendan Harrison being replaced with Padraig O’Hora in the early stages.

Ryan O’Donoghue started the drive for Mayo opening Mayo’s scores and found the back of Donnellan’s net.

Jordan Flynn added to Mayo’s goal tally bringing more cheer to the Mayo fans in attendance.

By halftime Mayo were leading the Lilliewhites 1-10 – 0-12 and the drive was on to see off a very strong Kildare side throughout the National League.


In the second half both teams came out in full force, once one team scored the other fought back and answered.

Both teams were all equal four times throughout the match and it was one of those games where anything could happen.

Every Mayo player out oin that pitch made sure to play their part and although there was mixed opinions about Mayo getting to the final but seeing the joy throughout Mayo fans has brought great excitement.

Almost three years since our 2019 League Final against Kerry, although it will be a tough battle, we need to go in knowing that we have gotten the win before.
